HOW TO PURCHASE MY WORK

In person or you can contact me via a phone call or email.

Making is play

I have been building my whole life.  Starting with Legos at a young age, I built scenarios, worlds, and narratives of make-believe.  That grew into a fascination with filmmaking, where I felt that the power of narrative to evoke emotion could reach a much wider audience.  I have always respected film and storytelling as an exploration of our relationship to the world around us and within ourselves.

I seek to evoke feelings of opening, newness, and wonderment.

It is this sense of exploration, of delving into something feeling focused but curious, intentional yet open, that I find greatly empowering.  Each project starts with an idea, or a shape, or a feeling.  I explore it either in sketches or by collecting materials, looking at them, thinking about their interplay and the use of the finished work.  I find this process playful, curious, and uniquely fun.  I feel close to each part of the project, and love shepherding the workpieces through the stages of their journey.  I borrow techniques along the way, from people I’ve known closely or folks who wrote an article once in Fine Woodworking.  I feel close to these traditions while engaging with them, and I feel honored to participate in the craft.

I practice instinctual, curious making

I find the more I work in different aspects of building, the more I am getting back to how it felt playing with Legos.  I have many different pieces around me, I pick them up and examine them, thinking about each one and its new place in the thing I’m making.  Materials, tools, drawings and the like are all ingredients in a process; the process is a stage in development; and eventually the narrative of a project comes to a close, and I present the finished piece to its client, or to its owner, or to myself, in its new home.  And I feel grateful to  watch that life unfold.
